Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions people ask most — about privacy, reminders, exports, and what happens to your records. If yours isn't here, write to us.
Getting started
What is Upkit?
Upkit is a privacy-first digital health app. Track your medications, conditions, doctors and clinics in one place, with reminders and refill alerts — no account needed, and your records stay on your device.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address and no password. Download Upkit and start using it straight away.
Is Upkit free?
Upkit is free to download, and everything described on this page is included at no cost. There is an optional Support Us screen in Settings — a one-off or monthly contribution if you'd like to help — but it unlocks nothing, and no part of Upkit is held back if you never use it.
What can I store besides medications?
Health conditions, the doctors and clinicians involved in your care, and the pharmacies, clinics and hospitals you visit. You can link them together — a medication to the condition it treats, a condition to the doctor treating it.
Privacy and your data
Where is my health data stored?
On your device, encrypted. Your medications, conditions, providers and history are not uploaded to Upkit.
Who can see my health data?
Only you. Your medications, conditions and history are stored encrypted on your phone and are never uploaded to Upkit. Some things do leave your phone — crash reports, performance measurements, app configuration, a check on whether you've supported Upkit, and a check with your app store, when you install, on whether an advert brought you here. Your clinic address searches leave when you make them. Anonymous usage statistics leave only if you switch them on, though a few technical start-up events are recorded before your choice is applied each launch. Your health records are not among any of it.
Does my data sync between devices?
No. Upkit stores your health records on the device you use them on — that is what allows it to work without an account and without sending your health records anywhere.
What happens if I lose my phone or get a new one?
Upkit has no account and no cloud copy, so your records live on the phone you use them on. There is no transfer between devices, and you should not rely on a device backup to bring them back — medication photos in particular are deliberately kept out of iCloud backups. Before you replace or reset a phone, export the medication histories you want to keep as a PDF or CSV. Conditions, doctors and clinics cannot be exported yet, so those entries would need to be added again.
Does Upkit show ads or sell my data?
No. There is no advertising anywhere in Upkit, and we do not sell your data or share your health records with insurers, advertisers or data brokers.
Using Upkit
Do reminders work without an internet connection?
Yes. Reminders are scheduled on your device and fire whether or not you have a connection.
What can I do from a reminder?
Mark the dose as taken, skip it, or snooze it — directly from the notification.
Can I give my medication history to my doctor?
Yes. Filter any medication's history by date range and dose status, then export it as a PDF or CSV and hand the file over yourself. Every report states the period it covers and exactly which records it included.
Does Upkit measure my adherence?
Upkit keeps a record of every dose you mark as taken or skipped, and shows a streak for each medication — doses you skip for a reason you have marked as clinically justified do not break it. It does not score you, and it does not judge whether a schedule is right for you. An exported report is a record of what you entered, not a clinical assessment.
